Supplies you will need for home brewing

There are many different varieties of beer kits that you can get. Some of the kits include liquid or powdered malt extract, which you add to water to make wort, as well as yeast and hops. Wort is what is fermented by the yeasts, to make the alcohol. It will later be boiled with hops. This process will create the mash. Along with a kit there are several other things that you will need. You will need:

  • a three gallon pot
  • a stirring spoon
  • a 6 gallon fermentation bucket
  • a can opener
  • a small saucepan
  • a temperature gauge
  • an airlock

Steps to take

Although the process can take a little while, it is pretty self explanatory.

  1. First you want to sanitize your equipment as well as some water, by boiling the water for 10 minutes.
  2. Next, to make the wort, bring 3 gallons of water to a boil and then turn off the stove and add the malt extract. If it’s the powdered version, make sure it’s completely dissolved.
  3. The next step is to the hops to the wort.
  4. When the wort is made you cool the wart and then add it to the fermentation bucket.
  5. You will then need to add 2 gallons of water. You will want to expose the mixture to as much oxygen as you can so slosh it around between the brew pot and the fermentation bucket to get air into it.
  6. Next it is time to add the yeast and stir it in for 10 seconds so that it will get completely dissolved.
  7. You will then need to cover the fermenting bucket with a tight lid and find a safe place to store it for two weeks. After you have found a good place for it put in the airlock and fill the airlock with clean water.
